Grand Junction Regional Airport was an Armstrong client from 2014-2017. During our partnership, we completed numerous AIP projects, one of which is outlined below.

This project included the reconstruction of the east half of the terminal air carrier apron. This half of the apron provides aircraft parking for one jet bridge gate and two ground gates for both Delta and United operations at the airport. A comprehensive construction phasing plan for the project was developed to minimize impacts to the air carrier operations. The project was divided into five major phases of construction while still allowing a minimum of three available aircraft parking spots, accommodating aircraft as large as EMB 175. Additionally, since this work was necessarily taking place within the AOA and largely within the SIDA, many special considerations were required to be incorporated into the construction safety and phasing plan. Construction safety fencing was incorporated into the phasing plan to safely contain the construction activities and keep the activities from impacting the safety of passengers and air carrier operations. A revised security fencing plan was required in order to accommodate certain air carrier ground operations.
Armstrong’s role in this project was primarily focused on revising and repackaging a previous design that had been completed by another consultant, developing a detailed construction safety and phasing plan, and providing assistance with bidding the project. Construction period services were provided by another consultant.
The design for this project was completed in JUL 2016. Bids were received in AUG 2016. Due to material quality issues with the concrete originally used on the project, the project completion was NOV 2018.
This project demonstrates Armstrong’s capability and experience with providing engineering services for a project at a commercial service airport. Armstrong’s role included project planning, repackaging and extensively revising the project plans and specifications, user coordination to incorporate unique requirements of each affected entity into the final construction safety and phasing plan, and bid period services.
