AIRPORT OVERVIEW
Since 2016, Armstrong has been the airfield and site civil designer on the project team for the Army National Guard helicopter facility inside and near the Las Cruces Internaitonal Airport.
Armstrong completed the airfield and landside civil site design for a 35,000 sf readiness center for the New Mexico Army National Guard’s C Company, 3rd Battalion, 140th Aviation Regiment, which operates UH-72 Lakota helicopters at the Las Cruces International Airport. Airfield design elements included a new heliport, hover taxilane, and helicopter parking apron. Landside civil site design elements included auto parking, access roads, sidewalks, stormwater management, site grading and drainage, and site utilities. Planning work included obtaining FAA approval for the new heliport and assisting with the development of new formal flight procedures to deconflict the fixed wing and new rotary wing traffic patterns.
